My main issue with Skinamarink? Not boring enough. I mean that truly and genuinely. I belive that the film's best moments are its blank space moments, its long stretches of stillness and quiet and the fuzz of noisy darkness. Any art that contains significant amounts of blank space is necessarilly collaborative --- what do you, the audience, fill that space with? What do you see and hear and think when there is nothing to see or hear or think about? The tension created by the film's slow, boring pace (again, not an indictment) is superb. Where the film fails is in the ways it resolves that tension in jumpscares. These resolutions are generally underwhelming, and like how it is easier to remember the bad times than the good after a contentious falling out, the disappointments are what stick with me most from Skinamarink.
